The Division Between Men And Women In The U.S.
December 15, 2022
Gender Inequality: Discrimination on the basis of sex or gender causes one sex or gender to be routinely privileged or prioritized over another. This is something that has been happening since the dawn of time and one would think the discrimination against someone’s gender would finally stop, but it hasn’t in the slightest. In the United States, women have more rights than in other countries, and that’s a fact, but why are basic rights where it has to stop?
Most people would say that women and men should be equal and that they are equal. If people really went by that logic, then, women in 2022 would not be getting paid 17% less than men in their place of work. Pew Research Center stated, “ As has been the case in recent decades, the 2020 wage gap was smaller for workers ages 25 to 34 than for all workers 16 and older. Women ages 25 to 34 earned 93 cents for every dollar a man in the same age group earned on average.”
It doesn’t just stop in the workplace. It is also reported that women face trouble with getting birth control and emergency contraception. Since the overturn of Roe V. Wade this year, there have been limits on prescription birth control, emergency contraception, and the constitutional right for a woman to choose if she wants to be at a constant childing bearing stage for 18 years. No matter what one’s opinion on this topic is, it is fair to say that there is no equality in this topic. Men are not cut off from contraception and they do not have the expectation to disable their reproductive parts as women do.
In conclusion, from the workplace to basic human rights and respect, the U.S. shows absolutely no equality between women and men. Of course, it has gotten better since the 1950s when it was legal to batter your wife, there is still so much separation. There are expectations men are held to that women aren’t and vice versa, but it does not have to be like that.
