Katelyn Higdon (11) is a girl who has a deep passion for reading. If you ask to read a book? She’ll recommend any romance book. (Maybe even spoil what the book is about because she gets carried away just talking about it) Her favorite book so far has been Verity by Colleen Hoover. When Higdon reads a book, she sometimes reads a book with Emily Angle, who also loves to read. Hidgon loves romance, but her favorite themes have thrilling storylines.
Higdon states, “Oh enemies to lovers, for sure.”
She likes the author, Colleen Hoover, reading her “spicy” novels, as Higdon calls “Ugly Love” by Hoover.
Higdon also loves to bake in her spare time.
“Really anything, I guess desserts, but I think it’s because I like to eat it,” Higdon mentions.
Cupcakes are her favorite dessert to bake. When she gets to bake, she enjoys baking with her boyfriend, Jeffery, who both love baking cookies for each other. She has taken culinary classes at McCracken, and so far her favorite is Culinary 1. She loves how “cus we do most things in the kitchen.” She likes business and hands-on cooking, rather than food and nutrition.
When it comes to music, she loves pop culture and the Queen of tragic romance herself, Lana Del Ray. She enjoys her songs Cinnamon Girl, Dark Paradise(she loves that song), and Snow on the Beach (ft. Taylor Swift) (who she also enjoys). Her favorite album is Folklore, which she loves all songs, but can’t choose from because she enjoys them too much. Some recent songs she has chosen to add to her playlist are Delicate by Taylor Swift, Earn It by The Weekend, and Reflections by The Neighborhood.
When she is out of school, she bakes (as mentioned), babysits her little brothers, and helps out with her parent’s business, Higdon Outdoors, a hunting store.
“Not my cup of tea”
She mentioned that she doesn’t go as often, but when she does visit, she
“would work down in the basement, and make duck calls, and turkey calls.”
When she’s not working, she hangs out with her “free-spirited grandma.” Her grandma is her big inspiration and looks up to her so much. She called her a hard worker, interesting and she believes they are super similar. They get along like two peas in a pod. When she was little, they would go to a restaurant, get food to bring back to her house, rent a good cheap movie, and have fun.
Higdon has possible plans for the future to be in the law and criminal justice careers. She loves crime. Currently, she likes the class and recommends it. Her personal opinion is that she does not like the teacher. Taking journalism, she is hoping to get out of the small bubble of not talking to people. She is hoping that it will help with introversion and avoiding people. She likes taking journalism because she gets to see Emmy, calming, and that she gets some downtime to catch up on work from other classes. She recommends this class. Higdon says that in journalism
“you get good human skills.”
Higdon wants to get into the yearbook class as a senior, and taking journalism will help her achieve that goal.
Higdon is a very loyal and committed person. If one of her friends goes to her for a problem, she has their back. Higdon loves her friends and is done for anything. Hangout at the mall? Down for it, even if she has only $2 to spend. She loves the company of her friends. She likes to bake, read, and shop with her friends. Her best friend, Emily, is taking journalism as well as her, and she is super excited they have a class together. Not only do they get to have a class together, but they can also talk about the recent drama they’ve heard around the school.
The library is one place she likes to go in her free time at school. In the mornings people usually go in the extremely long coffee line, but Higdon isn’t the type for coffee. She just likes to read, study, or just work in the library. A book lover like her would probably be roaming around looking for books, or book recommendations (if she hasn’t read all of them).
Being the “quiet girl” in school doesn’t mean they don’t have lives. Higdon’s life is full of happiness, peace, joy, adventure, creativity, and love. For one who meets her, you’re in for a treat. (or maybe just some cookies)
