Starry Night, by Vincent Gogh, made in 1889, is a very famous piece of art known for its appearance, not the story and meanings behind it. This painting is post-impressionism, showing van Gogh’s deteriorating mental health in the form of art.

He was in a mental asylum when he painted this piece, as it reflects his direct observations of his view of the countryside from his window, as well as the memories and emotions this view evoked in him. It is believed that the eleven stars in the painting have a biblical reference to Joseph, with a possible reference to Genesis. He was a patient in Saint Paul de Mausole asylum due to having bipolar disorder and manic depression. He spent a year in the asylum, and despite his mental health problems he was very productive; making a total of 150 paintings. After a year spent, he believed his stay was not helping make him better, so he transferred to a different asylum for two 

weeks, though left there as well. Sadly, his mental state got the best of him and he committed suicide on July 27 1890 at the age of 37.  Although Vincent van Gogh suffered from mental health problems, his art is amazing and has a lasting impact on the world.
