A Monday morning as all the students entered school, and all the halls were empty as all the students went to class, Macy asked if she could go to the bathroom after her teacher Mrs. Kay was finished giving instructions. As Macy was walking towards the bathroom, she saw what she thought was a zombie, and then all of a sudden her principal came over the intercom and told all the students and teachers to stay calm and stay in the classroom. As chaos escalated, the school was left in a tense silence, and was only left with occasional sounds of footsteps and screams and whispers. Macy along with her peers, huddled in Mrs. Kay’s classroom, trying to come up with a plan to outsmart the zombies that lurked outside the locked doors of the highschool. The tense moments in the air as all of the students that were in room 204 felt at the very moment as they all sat silent and heard footsteps come closer and they realized it was their principal running around the school for help. They let Mr. Harp in, and they all agreed they needed to come up with a plan to make the school a secure place to stay. They all thought that it was an outbreak that occurred and it would be resolved sooner or later but little did they know it wouldn’t go away. As they were making a plan they all disagreed on multiple things, but eventually they all decided to go out as a group and one person would stay in the classroom. Mr. Harp led the group to the construction site classroom, so Mr. Harp and the group collected the supplies they needed and moved quickly around the school, as their hearts were pounding as they worked together to board up any broken windows and doors. The sound of hammering and nails echoed through the hallways, a desperate sense of survival. Each plank of wood they secured felt like a small victory against the approaching herd. They knew that every second counted, and teamwork was their only hope of keeping the zombies out. Filled with exhaustion they put up the last barrier hoping it would hold. Mr. Harp and the group estimated that there were at least a hundred zombies outside, every shadow and noise outside heightened their anxiety, but they knew they had to stay focused and work together to ensure their safety. The group had seen the zombies gathering for hours, their numbers steadily increasing as the sun began to set. Mr. Harp, along with the others, peered through the remaining intact windows, counting the figures that shuffled and groaned just outside the windows. The hundred or so zombies were a mix of former townspeople, each with a hauntingly familiar face that made the sight even more frightening. Their movements were slow, but yet terrifying. As the night fell, the school was filled with a tense, eerie silence. The students and staff huddled together in their makeshift shelters inside Mrs. Kay’s classroom, trying to find some comfort on the hard floors. Macy lay next to her friends, her eyes heavy with exhaustion , but avoided sleep. The fear of zombies outside kept her on edge. Just as she was about to drift off, a sudden, loud crash echoed through the hallway. The sound of a board falling to the ground shook everyone awake. Macy’s heart raced as she sat up, her eyes darting the door. The barricade they had quickly put together earlier in the day had fallen. The room filled with hushed whispers and panicked breaths. Mrs. Kay motioned for everyone to stay quiet and slowly moved toward the door to assess the situation. Macy clutched her friend’s hand, her mind racing with worse case scenarios. Suddenly, the unmistakable sound of shuffling feet and low growls reached their ears. The zombies were close, too close. The teacher quickly signaled for everyone to move to the back of the room, away from the doors. They had to stay hidden and hope the zombies wouldn’t notice them. Macy’s heart pounded as the crouched in the corner, trying to steady her breathing. The sounds grew louder, and she could see shadows moving under the door. The tension in the room was visible, and every creak and groan of the building seemed amplified in the silence. Just when it seemed the zombies would break through, the shuffling footsteps began to fade. The zombies were moving away, for now. The room let out a collective sigh of relief, but no one dared to move or speak. They all knew the danger wasn’t over. Macy looked at her friends, their faces pale and eyes wide with fear. They made it through another close call, but the night was far from over. They would have to stay quiet and ready to defend themselves at any moment. Sleep was a luxury they couldn’t afford in this new, terrifying world they once called home.
The next morning, as the first light of dawn filtered through the dusty windows, the window tension in the classroom was still thick. Mr. Harp decided it was time to check the hallways. He knew it was risky, but they needed to know what they were up against. He slowly opened the door, peering out cautiously. The hallway was eerily quiet, but the silence was deceptive. Mr. Harp took a deep breath and stepped out, motioning for everyone to stay put. He walked down the corridor, his footsteps echoing in the stillness. Just as he rounded the corner, a zombie lunged at him from the shadows. Mr. Harp tried to fight it off, but more zombies appeared, drawn by the noise. He shouted for help, but the swarm quickly overwhelmed him. His cries echoed through the halls, sending chills down the spines of everyone in the classroom. Macy and the others could only listen in horror as the principal’s screams faded. They knew they had to act fast. The barricade had to be reinforced, and they needed to come up with a new plan. The zombies were getting bolder, and it was only a matter of time before they would breach their defenses. The loss of Mr. Harp was a heavy blow, but it also strengthened their resolve. They couldn’t afford to lose anyone else. When they realize they’re about out of food, panic starts to set in. Macy, Emily and Mrs. Kay gathered in a corner of the classroom to discuss their options. The supplies they had wont last them more than a day or two, but the thought of leaving the classroom was terrifying, but they decided they needed food so they could survive. Macy and Mrs. Kay makes their way to the cafeteria, but on the way there, Emily gets trapped in the supply closet. Unfortunately, Emily had already been bitten by a zombie. She tries to call out to Macy and Mrs. Kay, but they’re too far ahead to hear her. Inside the supply closet, Emily feels the pain from the bite starting to spread. She knows she doesn’t have a lot of time before the infection takes over. She looks around for anything that might help her. She finds a first aid kit, some cleaning supplies, and a broom. She uses the first aid kit to try and slow the infection, but she knows it’s only a temporary solution. Meanwhile, Macy and Mrs. Kay reach the cafeteria and starts gathering food. They soon realize Emily is missing and panic sets in. Mrs. Kay decides to stay in the cafeteria to secure the supplies while Macy heads back to find Emily. Macy retracks their steps, calling for Emily’s name as quietly as she can. After what feels like an eternity, she hears a faint response coming from the supply closet. She rushes over to find the door jammed. Using all her strength, she manages to force it open and finds Emily inside, looking pale and weak. Emily tells Macy about the bite, and Macy’s heart sinks. She knows they have to get Emily back to the cafeteria quickly, but she also knows the infection is spreading fast. They make their way back to Mrs. Kay, who is horrified to see Emily’s condition. When Macy, Mrs. Kay and Emily can’t find anything to cure the bite, they face a difficult reality. As Emily’s condition worsens, they know they are running out of time. They came together and tried to come to terms they might not be able to find a cure. As Emily’s condition deteriorates, they share stories and memories, trying to bring some lightness to the dark situation. Macy reads aloud from one of Emily’s favorite books, and Mrs. Kay talks about their adventures together before the outbreak. In Emily’s last moments, they hold each other close, grateful for the time they had together and the bond. In Emily’s final moments, they hold each other close, grateful for the time they had together and the bond they formed through the chaos. As Emily takes her last breath, a profound sadness settles over them, but they find solace in the fact that she is no longer suffering.
After Mrs. Kay and Macy leave the supply room following another loss of their group, they head back toward the classroom. As they approached, they see a hallway full of zombies, forcing them to act quickly. They manage to barricade themselves in Mrs. Kay’s classroom just in time, using desk and chairs to block the door. Inside the classroom, they take a moment to catch their breath, and assess their situation. The sound of zombies scratching and groans outside the door serves as a reminder they’re in danger. Mrs. Kay starts looking for anything useful in her classroom, such as supplies or potential weapons, while Macy keeps watch. Despite the fear and grief, they try and formulate a plan. They know they can’t stay barricaded forever, but for now, they have a moment of relative safety to regroup and think about their next move. The bond between Macy and Mrs. Kay grows stronger as they rely on each other for support and courage in the situation. Mrs. Kay decides to take a risky move to help them survive. She goes out the window and makes her way around to the main door. Once there, she starts banging on it loudly, hoping to draw the zombies away from the classroom door. Her plan works. The zombies, attracted by the noise, start moving toward the main door, giving Macy some breathing room inside the classroom. Macy watches anxiously from the window as Mrs. Kay continues to distract the zombies. After a tense few moments, Mrs. Kay manages to slip away from the main door and makes her way back to the classroom window. She climbs back inside, and they both take a moment to breathe a sigh of relief. Now, with the zombies temporarily distracted, they have a brief window of opportunity to come up with their next move. They knew they needed more supplies to have any chance of survival. They decided to head to the science lab, hoping to find something useful. As they moved cautiously through the hallways, every creak and groan of the building made their heart race. They finally reached the lab and began gathering anything that could help chemicals, tools, anything they could use as a weapon or to create a distraction. Just as they were about to leave they heard the unmistakable sound of zombies approaching. Mrs. Kay knew they had to act fast. She told Macy to stay behind her as they made their way back to the classroom, but the zombies were getting close. In a desperate attempt to protect Macy, Mrs. Kay turned to fight off the zombies. During the struggle, she was bitten. Realizing what had happened, she pushed Macy towards the exit and told her to run. Macy, tears streaming down her face, fled, knowing this was the last time she’d see Mrs. Kay. Suddenly, everything went black, and Macy jolted awake. She found herself back in the classroom, realizing it was all just a dream. She had fallen asleep during class, and the vivid nightmare had felt real. Relieved but still shaken, she looked around to see her classmates, including Mrs. Kay, safe and sound.
