You don’t know what I am. You don’t understand how important I am to your life. You take me for granted. You may only see me as a simple appliance. Well, trust me, I am far more than just a simple appliance. I consist of a complicated network of magic. I’m the force of fire captured in a cage of glass. I’m a thunderstorm of electricity contained in small wires. I’m the symbol of knowledge. I’m the representation of a profound new idea. I’m an invention meant to protect you from the darkness. I was the one who told you as a child not to worry. I remember exactly what I had told you all those years before. “Oh, don’t worry my sweet child, the darkness will never hurt you as long as I’m here.” I was there as you laid in your bed terrified. I was there while you silently cried all alone. I was there while you attempted to conceal yourself underneath the covers. I was always there. Of course, some people will exclaim how the burning sunshine and the pale moonlight are there too. But they’re not always here permanently like how I am. Like how I always was, always have been, and always will be. Eventually, the sun always paints the sky with vibrant colors and the moon will always go through a cycle of playing hide and seek with the clouds. Eventually, the sun and the moon won’t be there to illuminate the sky. But I’ll still be there. And I can illuminate everything everywhere. Your room, your house, your classroom, your school. There is not a single place without me. I’m an empire of light. With a flick of a button, I can burn brighter than any star. And yet, you still take me for granted. I’ve been with you literally for your entire life. But you haven’t ever really bothered to actually notice that, have you? Would you notice if I ever disappeared? Could you survive in a realm of darkness? No, I doubt that you could ever be able to handle the darkness forever. You wouldn’t be able to see. You’d lose the window to your soul. You’d lose everything that brightens your life. A human is nothing without the power of light at their fingertips. A human is nothing without me. A human is nothing without a light bulb.
