On Friday, August 22, at the Tilghman vs McCracken game, all eyes were on Martin Thomas, a leader on and off the field. An 11th grader with a knack for being a defensive player and a wide receiver. In the first half of the game, the team came out strong, dominating the field with impressive plays until halftime, where the scores between the two teams were neck and neck.
During the last quarter, the final results were 63-28 with the crimson team losing. After the game, he gave his thoughts on the competition: “We wanted to beat them this year, we felt it was a good game, but our players just ran out of gas towards the end.”
Balancing academics and athletics is no easy feat, but Thomas feels that the team’s brotherhood and their supporting each other through academic challenges get him through it. Thomas shares, “The more time the group spends together, such as saying the Lord’s prayer before every game and working out with each other in the summer, makes us feel more like family.”
For this team, it’s not just about winning games; it’s about building lifelong relationships and empowering each other.
Each player has their own significant role. Thomas provided his thoughts on the family dynamic, “I see Coach Brooks as being the dad on the team since he is always there when we need him, and he leads us on the right track. Payton is our little brother since he’s playful and always wants to be in group conversations. Kari and Jew have that friend and enemy relationship, but they are one of the best duos on the field.”
Everyone enjoys listening to “First Day out” by T Greasley before performing in the games,
as it pumps them up and gets the family focused. With players like Thomas leading, the future looks bright for this football team.
