Sydney Powers, Staff Writer - The Mane Tale Yearbook
Sydney Powers is well known in the orchestra at MCHS. She started off as a beginner violinist in 6th grade at Lone Oak Middle School, and since then has been working up to earning a scholarship.
Powers also participates in color and winter guard, and was given a leadership position because of her natural skill.
When under pressure, she likes to think about the future and tell herself the work to get there is worth it.
Like most others, Powers is motivated by music, especially Penelope Scott.
Another way she stays motivated is by the people in her class. “Many of my friends in orchestra are my friends outside of orchestra, too.”
There are occasionally people Powers doesn’t get along with, but instead of being rude to them she tries to be positive. “In color guard, we do this thing called “compliment sandwiches” where you say something good about someone else’s work ethic, how they can improve, and something specific they could try.”
Powers doesn’t plan to pursue music education after college; she would rather write fiction. “I want to be a writer because I really like to read, but some of the things I want to read aren’t existing books, yet.”
