What Makes You an Onion

What Makes You an Onion

Kaelin Rowell, Messenger Reporter

I was watching Shrek the other day in class (yes, me, a sixteen-year-old) and I got to one of the parts in the movie where Shrek was like, “Ogres are like onions.” and it had me thinking, ‘Maybe people are like onions too.” The fact is that we are. Everyone is essentially an onion. We all have layers and things we hide from everyone.  Here is a list of things that make you an onion.

  1. Your life at home

Whether you have divorced parents, annoying siblings, or a great life at home, everyone goes home to that one place after school every day. So it is a big part of who you are.

2. Your insecurities

Everyone has them. We like to say that we don’t, but in the end, everyone has a nose that is too big or a butt that is too flat. It’s just life.

3.Your hobbies

All of your hobbies make you who you are. People are often named by what they do like “Oh, he’s the soccer kid.” It isn’t a bad thing.Everyone has that one thing that they are good at.

4. Your biggest losses

We have all had to say goodbye to things that we love.

5.The bad times

6. The okay times

7. The good times

These can be divided into three, but really every single experience in your life has some impact on the person you are today. As high school students, we are often thinking about how we can be prepared for the future and make the best of our situation. The truth is, today really does have an impact on tomorrow.

8. The music you love

I don’t know about you, but music plays a huge role in my life. I am always listening to it. I think it is awesome how music can change the way people look at things and how it can shape you into a different person.

9. The things that make you a sensible human being

Unless you are the worst, you probably have something about you that people notice. For me, it is my crude sense of humor. Maybe you are “the nice kid” or maybe this does not apply to you at all.

10.The epidermis, the dermis, and the subcutaneous tissue

Honestly, that pretty much sums it up and I could not think of anything else that makes a person what they are. But I guess that the three layers of skin do indeed make a person a person.
