2018 Meme Review

Kenzie Crane

We’re only two months into 2018 and we’ve already witnessed some of the greatest and dumbest memes of our generation. From memes like the tide pod meme that are actually dangerous, and memes like ugandan knuckles that just don’t make sense, we’ve had our fair share of memes this year. Here’s a review of some of the most popular ones:

Ugandan Knuckles: The Ugandan Knuckles meme is one that tried to stand the test of time, but fell short when it got extremely popular. Basically, this meme shows a distorted animation of Knuckles the Echidna using a Ugandan accent. It moved to VRChat and blossomed from there. Users of VRChat would use the Ugandan Knuckles avatar and blow up the game with phrases like, “Do you know de way?” and an abundance of clicking noises. Their “purpose” was to find their queen, and whoever didn’t fit the bill was “spit on”, and called a fake queen. This meme was good while it lasted, which was pretty much the entire month of January. But, as any other good meme, the majority of the population got ahold of it and rammed it into the ground. I give this meme a 6/10.

Tide Pods: Tide Pods were easily the biggest meme of 2018 so far. They literally got so big they were dangerous to children’s health. It originated from people calling them “the forbidden fruit.” Tide pods have always been a bit of an issue, because they look like candy, and toddlers have a tendency to eat them. Now, because our generation is dumb, teenagers are having to call poison control because of Tide pods. Personally, I liked this meme until people with no common sense got ahold of it. Because of its danger to people, I give this meme a 5/10.

FBI Agent: The FBI Agent is a meme based off of a conspiracy theory that the FBI watches you through your phone and computer cameras. People took the conspiracy and talked about how their relationship with their FBI Agent is very close. They would do favors or things for their “FBI Agent.” I give this meme a 6/10.

I could go on and on about more memes from the first two months of 2018, because there are so many. Treasure your favorite memes, because they will come and go within the span of a month.
