Yolanda Renee King - March For Our Lives Speech

Martin Luther King’s nine-year-old granddaughter, Yolanda Renee King, gave a speech last month at March For Our Lives. She made a surprise appearance at the protest, led in by Parkland shooting survivor Jaclyn Corin. She began her speech by saying that her grandfather had a dream that “his four little children would not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character… I have a dream, that enough is enough.”

Yolanda proceeded to let everyone else in the crowd let their voices be heard too. “Repeat after me,” Yolanda proclaimed with a confident smile. “Spread the word”, she began. “Have you heard, all across the nation, we are going to be a great generation.” Everyone repeated this, more and more powerful each time. After repeating the phrase three times with great emotion, the crowd cheered for the strong young girl and let their energy show.

Yolanda’s platform for her speech was similar to that of her grandfather’s, and it is easy to see that she is following in his footsteps and speaks up for what she believes in. In 2018, we are still facing issues regarding people’s rights, and hopefully, we can march forward to a better future.  If you weren’t able to view Yolanda’s speech, it is uploaded to YouTube and dailymail.co.
