What’s Up With Paducah’s Wacky Weather?

Whats Up With Paducahs Wacky Weather?

Jaden Raney, Messenger Reporter

Picture yourself a few weeks ago. You wake up with a smile on your face and a hopeful attitude. You stretch and cheerily get out of bed because the sunshine is peeking through your window.

“It’s going to be a lovely spring day!”, you think as you may reach for a short-sleeved shirt or a pair of sandals. You finally step outside, eager to feel the sun’s warmth on this April morning.

And you’re greeted with a welcoming 40 degrees.

It begins to snow.

Paducah is notorious for its unpredictable weather, but this season it has been particularly obnoxious. Do you dress for the season? Or do you bundle up in your winter coat? Will March and April have highs of 75 degrees or 55 degrees? If you’re somebody that didn’t go on a beach getaway for spring break, you’re probably craving nice weather even more. I mean come on, it was in the forties and fifties that week! Western Kentucky has experienced some lower than average temperatures for April, and there were a few severe weather instances and tornado warnings across counties. This is to be expected because Paducah basically had three winters instead of all four seasons this year. It hasn’t felt like spring, because spring is arriving a month late!

However, if you are somebody whose mood improves when there’s sunshine, you’re in luck. April showers bring May flowers, and according to local weather reports, you can expect plenty of comfortable warmth for the next few weeks. Temperatures are expected to stay in the 60s and 70s, and we can finally let out a sigh of relief and welcome May with open arms. Despite the instability of Paducah’s weather, we can admit that the nice temperatures feel even better once you’ve been stuck in the dark abyss that is Kentucky’s winter.
