Twitter: The Worst Social Out There

The infamous social media platform, Twitter, has been ruining lives and spreading toxicity since its start in 2006. On October 27th, 2022, the billionaire co-founder and CEO of Tesla, Elon Musk, bought Twitter at the price of $44 billion.  Ever since then, drama has been unraveling.  On the day the deal was closed, current CEO Elon Musk fired Twitter’s former CEO, Parag Arawal, along with other executives.  Musk and Twitter’s logo are appearing on almost every popular news broadcast.

To give background, Twitter has always been a platform used to spread ideas and beliefs.  However, due to the freedom on the app, “spreading beliefs” was turned into debating, fighting, slandering, slurring, and the like.  Politics is one of the biggest hot points for users, especially around election time.  “I actually don’t really use Twitter because of all of that,” remarked House 5 Math teacher, Mrs. Looper.

Adding onto this idea, there is no filter when it comes to what can be posted.  Nudity and pornographic content are among the many things allowed on this platform.  “Yeah, like every celebrities’ nudes are on Twitter,” Delaney Green, a Freshman, said.  Slander, gossip, fake news hate, toxicity, inappropriate language, and content are all over this media.

Furthermore, Twitter is hardly used anymore.  It is the least popular among teens and even students at MCHS.  About 1/20 MCHS students have Twitter among the various social media platforms.  Teachers, if they do have it, only use it to view school tweets.  “Yeah, I have it, but I only look at it like once a week,” said student Aaron Munoz, a Freshman.

In conclusion, Twitter is the worst social media platform to exist as of 2022.  “Twitter is just a breeding ground for people to hate on others,” Rachael Hobbs, an 18-year-old senior at MCHS, stated in an interview.  The real question is: to Twitter or to not Twitter?
