On Tuesday, November 15th, 2022, the United Nations announced that the world’s population had now reached an estimated 8 billion people. Although this isn’t an exact number because it is always changing, the population crossed the line on Tuesday. Eleven years ago the world’s population was sitting at 7 billion. This is a large milestone for the world as more and more developments are being made. The baby that made the population difference was born in the Dominican Republic. The United Nations says, “This unprecedented growth is because of the gradual increase in human lifespan, thanks to improvements in health, nutrition, personal hygiene, and medicine.”

A senior at McCracken High School was interviewed on this topic and here is what they had to say. They were asked, “How do you feel about the world’s population meeting 8 billion people?” their response was, “I think that is a large milestone for the world as a whole because 8 billion is a lot of people.” The world is still growing and will continue, with time, to grow higher and higher.
