The past few weeks were filled to the brim with nerves and excitement over McCracken’s newest play, “The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane.” After an unexpected win against a SCAPA school, the theater kids made it to nationals!

Playing one of the main characters, Lucy the dog, Nova Carter’s reaction to winning was, “I was so excited but nervous, it was my first role and animals are so fun to play.” Of course, she was also excited at the opportunities, especially since this was her first major role and they did so well. She stated that “…it’ll help me get bigger roles.”

When asked if she expected to win, Carter said that she expected them to get second, but as mentioned previously, she didn’t expect to beat a SCAPA school. But of course, all good things must come to an end, because this win means the kids in the theater only get to play their roles one last time. This would normally be sad or bittersweet, but Nova, she stated that she felt excited about being able to play her character one more time, ready for the new opportunities that await her.

A play summarized as a rabbit going on a long journey and learning to love may go beyond just the fictional storyline, as many have stated how much closer this production has brought them. A win as big as this is impressive, and we hope there’s more to come from our theater kids.
