School Lunch

School Lunch

Trinity Johnson, Staff Writer - The Mustang Messenger

Like most other public schools, McCracken has a free lunch for every student; but is it always worth it? A fellow student named Ally Wilson has a lot to say about school lunch. Wilson has been a vegetarian for almost a year and a half. Many days out of the week, she is deprived of good food options. Every other student here, who is not vegan and/or vegetarian, is given full meals daily. Unlike Wilson, she is excluded since meat is always a big part of lunch. Wilson claims she doesn’t get excited for lunch, ¨Sometimes only when I can eat it, but normally I cant because there’s never anything that has no meat in it.¨ It’s not always ideal to bring your lunch to school daily. There is a snack option in the cafeteria. Wilson states she spends at least twenty dollars a week buying snacks. ¨Twenty dollars a week. If I brought my lunch, it would be more.¨ Her overall opinion on school lunch is that there should be more choices. ¨I think that they just need to have another option every single day. It can be the same thing every day. I could eat a grilled cheese sandwich every single day. When they have spaghetti, there could be one with meat and one without. I’m not the only vegetarian here.¨
