Selaney Yancey

Laney Yancey is a sophomore at Mccracken County High School and over the moon to be writing for the Mustang Messenger because it makes her feel a bit more like she is working for Vogue in New York City. Laney’s articles include her monthly playlist, fashion articles, and anything ranging from Harry Potter to politics. Laney is a member of Drama Club and Theatre Department at MCHS and does theater outside school as well with Mainstage School of Performing Arts. Aside from being a theater geek who always has her headphones turned up way too loud for everyone to enjoy, Laney loves fashion, making playlists, Mexican food, and writing ramblings in her journal. Laney is passionate about social issues concerning minorities and the LGBT+ community and proudly calls herself an intersectional feminist. When she grows up, she hopes to use this passion for justice to be an activist and use her words to inform and engage humanity, no matter what field she falls in. After high school, Laney wants to move away and has considered majoring in theater, journalism, or art history, but mostly, just wants to do something she loves. Laney’s favorite movies are Little Miss Sunshine and Juno, her favorite books are Looking For Alaska and A Wrinkle In Time, and when shuffling her music you will get a range from Avenue Q to Modest Mouse to Kendrick Lamar. Her coffee order is a chai latte and she believes that Lady Gaga and the power of words could save the world.
“This year I strive to be the Leslie Knope of whatever I do.”
