Why Gilmore Girls is a Fall Staple

Whether it’s the comfy atmosphere that the fictional town “Stars Hollow” provides, or the big sweaters and obvious wind in most outside shots, nothing screams autumn quite like the Netflix series Gilmore Girls.

Mother-daughter duo Lorelai and Rory Gilmore, as TV Insider states, “…navigate the trials and tribulations of life in the small storybook town of Stars Hollow.” In itself, it sounds like a rather simple plotline, but take the added drama that spreads like wildfire in the small town and the everyone-knows-everyone feel, it quickly becomes almost soap opera-esque.

The show’s creator, Amy Sherman-Palladino, said that she and her husband had been so charmed by a trip to the small town of Washington Depot, Connecticut, that she decided to base the entire show off of the aesthetic and feel of it.

Sherman-Palladino also stated that there was no budget for the show, meaning she could decorate the entire town with the most festive fall looks her heart desired.

However, whenever she pitched the idea for the show, it turned out to be a fluke with the producers. “I was actually trying to pitch a different story and they were bored out of their minds,” Sherman-Palladino states, “so they were sort of like ‘You got anything else?’”

One of the quintessential autumnal episodes of the entire series is simply the pilot. Whether it be the cable knit sweaters, the fall foliage, or just the overall decorative town square, Gilmore Girls is the way to go for the fall season and on into winter as well.
