Addy Drake, Staff Writer – The Mustang Messenger
Addyson Drake is a junior at McCracken County High School. She is a seventeen year old journalist who sincerely cares about justice. Her greatest aspiration for writing is to bring light and heighten awareness of social issues. She cares deeply about those around her and what she can do to help others. These are all things of great importance to her and it shows in her articles.
She is driven by kindness, faith, and doing what is right. No matter what she may be writing about, she prioritizes authenticity and remaining fair. She keeps a mantra for herself to “Expect to be treated how you treat other people.” Although she tends to be more introverted, she has always been strongly opinionated and her writing reflects those beliefs with confidence. She has always been interested in learning more about the world, its history, and all the varieties of people in it.
Addyson has a love for the literary arts and enjoys spending a portion of her free time reading. She loves poetry and favors the historical fiction and romance genres. She takes most inspiration from her high school English teacher as well as her favorite poet, Whitney Hanson. Both Addyson and Whitney like to write with personal experiences and relatability. This love for literature partially influenced her path into journalism. She decided to expand on her interest and this led her to where she is now. More specifically, she joined the ‘intro to journalism’ class to fuel her curiosity about what journalism is all about; here she found a spark of new interest. Through the class, she found a way to expand on important subjects and get pressing information out.
She says she may want to continue an education in journalism, either at Murray State or a University somewhere in Tennessee. But either way, she wants to keep writing in her life. She stays active in her interpersonal life and is involved in her local church as a youth director. Here she spends time watching and working with kids.
