Makanda Rolfe, Staff Writer – The Mustang Messenger
Makanda Rolfe is a sophomore at McCracken County High School. She grew up in Paducah, as well as in Texas and Illinois. She is a kind and gentle person, with a caring, shy, and intelligent personality. Rolfe loves to read and her favorite book is The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky because she believes that it has a good presentation of mental illness. She says the book discusses the hard, but real-life problems that aren’t really talked about.
In 10 years she sees herself either in a big city or somewhere secluded in a tiny house. Rolfe signed up for journalism because she takes interest in writing and wants to pursue a career in journalism or music. She claims that she finds this class as good practice for her future career. Her goal for this year is to stray away from many absences so she can obtain her permit and start to drive.
Something she has learned in school is social skills. She says, ¨If it wasn’t for school I would have no time to socialize with my friends,” and that she enjoys the social aspect of school most of all.
Some of her favorite things are her aunt, the color purple, sushi (but not raw fish sushi), and she loves to hike. Rolfe’s favorite memory of high school thus far is a freshman-year principles of health science class with Mrs. Bivens.
She describes her styles as edgy and alternative; her music taste reflects that. Rolfe enjoys listening to music and if she had to pick a favorite artist it would be Sara Kays.
