Something that teachers have noticed this year is how many senior students they have failing because they don’t do anything.
“Class of 2024, senioritis since freshman year!” Mrs. Rathgeber, a senior English teacher says.
Lots of my friends talk all the time about how they have so many missing assignments, and I just don’t understand how or why. They just don’t care.
I know that the school provides after-school help, but seniors don’t want to be here any longer than they need to. Most even co-op, so they’re not here for longer than three hours.
Most teachers will also do whatever they can to help you stay caught up. If you don’t understand, you could just ask for help. But, I don’t think the student not understanding is the problem.
Seniors, this year especially, just don’t do their assignments. I’ve been in classes with these students prior to this year where the teacher would basically give you all the answers for the worksheets on the board, and they still wouldn’t fill it out or turn it in.
Why they don’t do anything, no one really understands. I know lots of students don’t care about their grades or about school, and it is more heavily prominent in this senior class.
I think the reason for this is that we started high school right in the middle of COVID, so we weren’t ever really taught what kind of work ethic real high school would require before establishing our own standing.
We didn’t really have a lot of work to do while doing virtual school, and there wasn’t anyone to hold us accountable for finishing or turning in our work.
While this isn’t an excuse, it’s a start. I feel that we should’ve been reintroduced to high school better.
Not that high school is much different than middle school, but teachers expect different things from you, and I don’t think we ever got the introduction that we really needed.
