The audiences’ applause filled the air but it all fell faint to her ears. She was too focused on the thundering sound of her heart beating in her chest. She had won. With a victorious smile she stretched her arms up high looking at the man who encouraged her every step of the way, her coach. Her dad.
Anya Rothrock (11) is the daughter of Coach Derek Rothrock, a man who has been mountain biking for over 20 years. Anya, found a similar passion for the sport and joined the mountain biking team. Though many would believe that having a coach as a dad would give Anya an advantage, she had to work hard to prove her determination to the sport.
Anya joined the mountain biking team last year where she was quick to learn the difficulties of the sport. Mountain biking didn’t come easy to Anya at first but when putting forth her best effort at the practices, she found that she enjoyed the sport despite its challenging nature. And with the support of her dad, Anya was able to learn how capable she was.
“My dad, absolutely my dad,” were the words Anya voiced when asked the question: “who inspires you the most?” She displayed how her father’s inspiration helped encourage her throughout her mountain biking journey. With her unwavering determination and her dad alongside her for the ride, Anya was successful in winning first place at the first Mountain biking competition this year.
