Rae Hobbs, a senior at McCracken County High School, is passionate about writing about the important events happening right now.
She said, "Due to unpleasant issues, most people shy away from the news, but I like to write about topics that most would shy away from in order to get the not-so-happy news out into the world."
In sixth grade, she began writing and is heavily influenced by her grandmother, who was also a writer. Since then, she has longed to write what and where her grandmother could not.
Hobbs began her creative journey by journaling as a hobby. Due to her creative nature, she has always enjoyed writing, but she didn't notice her wonderful knack for it until her teachers noticed her clever writing style.
Hobbs says that using a pen and diary is one of the simplest ways to write.
“You can get rid of all thoughts and not delete them out of a suspicion that they seem stupid or unintelligent,” she believes.
She dedicates an honorable mention to her best friend, Emily, from whom she drew a lot of creativity and inspiration. She is very supportive of Hobbs and has been with her throughout everything. Hobbs is not only talented in journalism, but also in many other fields. She is a proud member of HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) and shehe also belongs to the e-sports club. Some of her hobbies are reading, comics, and making costume props.
One of Hobbs' main encouragements is feeling proud of her work. Being able to look at an amazing piece and saying, “I made this art.'' Whether it be essays, interviews, or a few words on a page it is the most fulfilling thing to claim it as her own in Hobbs' eyes. Another key motivator for her work is proving herself. When she has doubts about her limits, she writes and proves to herself, or others, that she can accomplish any goal. Therefore, when she writes, she wins back her confidence and can keep going without any doubts or suspicions filling her headspace.
