McCracken County High School is filled with a great many remarkable, inspiring individuals. No matter what hardships the day might bring, I find solace in the fact that my peers will greet me with open arms and make me feel at home. Although most all of my peers are friendly and welcoming, there is one whose friendliness stands out among the rest: Caleb Kindred.

In retrospect, I can’t even remember what life was like before meeting Caleb; he’s brought such joy to my being that everything I experienced before meeting him has been rendered meaningless. Every morning while walking into school, I can’t help but grin; I know that Caleb will brighten my day the moment I see him. However, I can’t help but wonder what characteristic he possesses that draws me so near to him. While I may not be able to pinpoint the exact response to this inquiry, there are two features of his that are noticeably more prominent than the rest, the first of which is his speaking skills.

For those who don’t know, Caleb is the Assistant Captain of the cross country team. As such, it is his responsibility to ensure that every member of the team gives all of his effort in every race. In order to do so, he gives a pep-talk directly before every race, and his masterful delivery of these pep-talks establishes him as one of the most skilled orators of his time. He crafts his sentences in such an eloquent way as to bring even Abraham Lincoln to tears, and his diction is second to none. Each of his speeches ignites the fire of youth within me, and with each word he says that flame burns brighter and brighter. Undoubtedly, he is the most gifted rhetorician I’ve ever met.

In tandem with his orating skills, Caleb is also one of the strongest people I know. This fact alone is not what makes him unique; rather, it is what he does with this strength that makes him unique. With such undeniable brawn, he has an influence that other members of the cross country team don’t, and with this influence, he can bring stability to the team. However, for me, this stability extends beyond just the team; it extends to my entire life. Knowing that I have him to fall back on, I can live my life freely under his protection.

Caleb is surely one of the most capable, influential people I know. While his cross country career may have just come to a close, I know his grace will win him respect long after high school.
